As a few of you know, I'm transportless, and have to ride a feckin push bike to my new glamorous job at CostCo..... (not a good look for someone in their 30's )
But!! Come the 2nd i should have just over two monkeys or a bag of sand or a fazund sov's (£1,000) to buy a new skid machine!!!
So to you guys in the UK... i need ideas? I've been looking at ALOT of E36/46's online and wouldn't say no to one but I'm not 100%, and its the first time i've been looking at cars without a "i'm getting one of those" attitude
I'm keeping my eyes pealed at Ford Sierra's and S13's, but the Sierra has to "speak to me" as LX's etc... dont move me lol (Read xr4x4 in mint con/turbo technics/xr4i... basically the 'naughty' ones) And any S13 under £1,800 is a basket case, let alone the sub 1k cars
The missus has vetoed any mx-5 as she hates them.... even if they've been turbo'd!!?? I've looked at the lower end of the Lexus IS, 5 and the cheeky 7 series V8's , even 'classic' scoobies and legacy's but nothings jumped out and said "you want ME now!" (the cheaper early E46 330i coupe's are closest with E36 328 coupe's in second)
I'm old and have 9yr NCB so high insurance is not really an issue I WILL NOT own a fwd unless i have to (i like 4wd, but i love rwd )
SO... after all that HELP find me my new daily hoonwagen! What have i not thought of?

Yeah I doubt you'll find a decent S13 for under 1k.
You know my vote is an E36, since your older you could get one with a decent size motor in it rather than the 318. Having never owned one I can't speak from experience. But by the looks of threads on Driftworks and sale ad's they're reliable & cheap. They can also skid well, again, by the looks of it.
Shame about the MX5 situation, a turbo'd one would be sick! But yeah, I vote on the E36.

You'll be hard det on finding a decent set of wheels for under a grand. Is a budget increase possible?

@Cougar i was only looking at 2500cc+ engined bmw's fella lol @Adz, love you i would love an x-pack capri but the only cars in my budget are rough 1.6 lazers and as such... shite.... to make it anywhere near what i'd like, it would take more than another couple of grand at which point i would be looking at rough E36 M3 money
So E36 328 or E46 330... i've checked the essentials and cheap coilover kits are the same price for both chassis' I've seen a few nice E36 Touring's but i hate the rear lights... so what are the options there Lou?

Bren, the only way to increase budget is to ride the bike longer lol £500 would equate to another month on it, so there's enough to mod/fix a cheaper car but not really to increase the budget for a better one

I wish E36s would drop in price out here. They still go for like 3-4k and maintenance costs are stupid high as the only place you can get parts are the BMW dealer. Hachis also STILL have the Takumi tax, unless you speak Spanish and bump into one of the little old Mexican ladies that drive their automatic coupes around.

Ok the E36's are in the lead as there is no cheap way of fitting an LSD to the E46's
E36 + £100-200 ebay diff + 2 or 3 hours = skids in marties pants!
E46 + almost the entire rear setup (subframe, brakes, hubs, driveshafts) from an M3 AND a custom drive shaft (easily over a thousand) = Poor man with no money for fuel to do said skids in marties pants also the Quaife route is still well over 1k

Haha, I'd get a coupe or saloon before I get a touring.

Why does the E46 have to be a ball ache to get skiddy (and it would be a daily so no welded diff) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331039986124?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Get an E36 touring, drop an S54 in it and become king of the world!
But for real, you should get an E36 Touring. Or what about a 5 Series, E34/39
